The Illusionists breaks Shaftesbury Theatre's box office records

The Stage have revealed that The Illusionists broke records at the Shaftesbury Theatre this Christmas.

The magic show took more than £1 million during the final week of its run between  28th December and 3rd January.

18,500 people saw the show during its final week meaning The Illusionists broke both sales and attendance records, the previous of which was held by Derren Brown’s show Svengali.

£3.4 million was reportedly taken throughout the seven week season, making it the highest grossing short season ever at the Shaftesbury Theatre.

Speaking to The Stage, the Shaftesbury's chief executive James Williams said it had been a “real honour for the theatre to host such a hugely successful show”.

Having played to 71 cities across 17 countries, Britain’s Got Talent magician Jamie Raven led the cast at the Shaftesbury Theatre.
